Public Art Installation: Five Mast Viewing Device - May 2016 Part of Johnson County Community College’s Sustainability initiative
My proposal for the installation, Five Mast Viewing Device was accepted along with four other student proposals. A site specific installation, Five Mast Viewing Device, is located on the Johnson County Community College's Campus. It is composed entirely of reclaimed steel and glass, part of the college's initiative to combine art and sustainability practices. It is intended to catch and reflect its environment as it changes throughout the day, and enhance the viewers' physical apperception of the site by indicating subtle elevational changes as well as visually fragmenting and re-framing ones environment based on continuously changing reflections and the observers line of sight. To this end, it is intended to embody in three dimensions the concepts of cubism that exist on the two dimensional plane. It is intended to draw a parallel between painting and sculpture, and unite this with the experience of seeing multiple vantage points in real time, via the continuously cycles and seasons of its environment.
